The Duke’s Head

In Pubs, Restaurants on August 11, 2010 at 10:33 am

The Duke’s Head in Putney is just a few minutes from Putney High Street, making it very easy to walk to from Putney Bridge tube, Putney (overground) train and East Putney tube stations.  It’s a lovely pub with a really nice view of the river so I suggest to try to get a table nearest the window when making a reservation (which I highly recommend doing).  They have a really nice selection of starters, mains and desserts as well as a nice choice of foods like burgers and ribeye steak prepared on the grill.  If you’d like to take a stroll after your meal, head toward Putney Bridge and cross over to Bishop’s Park.

The Waterfront

In Pubs, Restaurants on August 10, 2010 at 2:30 pm

The Waterfront is one of the many Young’s pubs throughout London and in my opinion one of the nicest.   Inside seating consists of booths, tables and a lounge / bar area while the outside is equipped with tables and umbrellas with a view of the riverside walk. It’s located in Battersea Reach, where all the new developments are, which means it is well-kept and in a residential area.  And, because it’s not on a high street or main road, the pub’s hidden location makes it feel cozier. You’ll most likely see children playing and riding their bikes along the riverside.  In addition to their a la carte menu, they also offer daily lunch specials for £6.50 each and have a separate kid’s menu.

The Ship

In Pubs, Restaurants on August 9, 2010 at 2:23 am

The Ship, located in Wandsworth, is a pub/restaurant popular for its BBQ and outdoor seating during the spring and summer seasons.  They have both a BBQ menu (if you’d like to order straight from the grill) and a complete restaurant menu featuring daily specials, including Sunday roast.  Staff is friendly and it’s always busy, especially after work and on the weekends, however, there’s ample space should you decide last-minute to walk in and have a bite.  It’s situated on the river which means you can take a stroll in either direction toward Wandsworth Park or Battersea, or if you’d like, you can cross Wandsworth Bridge and head to Chelsea and Fulham.

Note:  All portions listed in their menu are adult sized but they do offer kid’s sized portions too on select items such as risotto, fish and chips, etc.

Automat

In Restaurants on July 31, 2010 at 10:52 am

If you’re like me and often crave a stack of pancakes for Sunday brunch then I suggest heading out to Mayfair.  Automat is an American Brasserie that serves anything from eggs benedict to NY strip steak.  I have yet to try their steak but I can say that their pancakes are really good AND they also serve streaky bacon, for those who love Oscar Mayer!  In my opinion, it’s one of the best places to have American style pancakes in London.  They accommodate larger parties too but be sure to make a reservation as they are extremely busy, especially so during the weekend.

Las Iguanas

In Restaurants on July 8, 2010 at 5:53 pm

Looking for some Latin flavor?  Las Iguanas serves food from countries such as Mexico, Brazil, Spain, and Puerto Rico… just to name a few.  There’s ample seating indoors and outdoors so no reservations are necessary, but recommended.    They offer a lunch special with generous sized portions starting at £6.90 Monday to Friday with selections like a burrito, sweet potato fishcakes or asparagus salad.   Their kids’ menu is also excellent, moderately priced and big enough to fill their tummies.  Note that they also have organic baby food – complimentary!   Close to Waterloo station and on the South Bank, it’s a hot spot for both tourists and locals.    Highly recommended so be sure to check the location nearest to you!

The Draft House

In Pubs on June 20, 2010 at 10:22 pm

About a 12 minute walk from Clapham Junction Station, The Draft House is one of the most popular pubs in Battersea.  With 18 beer on tap it’s surely a hot spot – for singles and families alike.  Although it is extremely kid-friendly they unfortunately do not offer a kid’s menu, which would be absolutely fantastic!   Definitely take a peek at their  full menu which consists of a brunch selection (Saturday & Sunday), Sunday roast and even a lunch menu with the usual fish n chips and their Draft House Burger topped with a blue cheese mayo – scrummy!   Note that there is one other location in Westbridge.

Del’ Aziz

Del’ Aziz , an Eastern Mediterranean chain of restaurants serving a selection of sweet and savory foods, has 5 locations throughout London:  Fulham, Westfield, Swiss Cottage, Bermondsey and Bankside.  I have been to both the Westfield and Fulham restaurants and have had fantastic service along with great food.  They have daily lunch specials which are usually priced below £10.00 for a pita sandwich or other entree and a kid’s menu which is generally priced at £4.95, check your local restaurant for details.  They have an ample supply of  highchairs too plus a very comfortable seating area.  I recently went to Del’ Aziz Westfield with 7 other mums (as walk-ins) where the staff were quick to accommodate us all.

Pizza Express

There’s no way I could go on without listing Pizza Express.  It’s a win win situation for any parent wanting to please their child.  What kid doesn’t love pizza or ice cream?!  Here’s the kid’s menu, just as yummy as the regular menu.  And, as you read it, notice the Schools’ Programme listed below, now that’s pretty amazing!  I think I would have jumped up and down at the opportunity of a hands on pizza experience during one of our class trips.  Just enter your postal code and find your nearest Pizza Express.

Doukan

This wonderful Moroccan restaurant is one of my favorites.  Nominated by Gordon Ramsay as the best local restaurant on the F-Word, you’ll be certain to walk away wanting more. Take a look at their lunch menu, the merguese dish is my top pick.  On Sundays they feature a live jazz band while you relax and enjoy brunch.  Doukan is a cozy, intimate yet comfy restaurant.  Trust me, you won’t leave disappointed.

Eddie Catz

In Indoor fun on April 1, 2010 at 3:04 pm

There are two Eddie Catz locations, one in Putney (right off the High St.) and the other in Wimbledon (near Colliers Wood).  There’s an enclosed soft play area for babies and toddlers and a separate section for those aged 3 – 1o years old.  Older kids can enjoy playing in the multi-tiered playframe or have a go at a game of air hockey.  Other video games are available too.  In addition, they offer classes, workshops and events nearly everyday such as “Let’s Dance” for those 5 – 10 years old.  They host parties during the holiday season so be sure to check out their monthly schedule.  The Eddie Catz play area in Putney is located on a 1st floor walk up so be sure to pack light.
