The Duke’s Head

In Pubs, Restaurants on August 11, 2010 at 10:33 am

The Duke’s Head in Putney is just a few minutes from Putney High Street, making it very easy to walk to from Putney Bridge tube, Putney (overground) train and East Putney tube stations.  It’s a lovely pub with a really nice view of the river so I suggest to try to get a table nearest the window when making a reservation (which I highly recommend doing).  They have a really nice selection of starters, mains and desserts as well as a nice choice of foods like burgers and ribeye steak prepared on the grill.  If you’d like to take a stroll after your meal, head toward Putney Bridge and cross over to Bishop’s Park.

The Waterfront

In Pubs, Restaurants on August 10, 2010 at 2:30 pm

The Waterfront is one of the many Young’s pubs throughout London and in my opinion one of the nicest.   Inside seating consists of booths, tables and a lounge / bar area while the outside is equipped with tables and umbrellas with a view of the riverside walk. It’s located in Battersea Reach, where all the new developments are, which means it is well-kept and in a residential area.  And, because it’s not on a high street or main road, the pub’s hidden location makes it feel cozier. You’ll most likely see children playing and riding their bikes along the riverside.  In addition to their a la carte menu, they also offer daily lunch specials for £6.50 each and have a separate kid’s menu.

The Ship

In Pubs, Restaurants on August 9, 2010 at 2:23 am

The Ship, located in Wandsworth, is a pub/restaurant popular for its BBQ and outdoor seating during the spring and summer seasons.  They have both a BBQ menu (if you’d like to order straight from the grill) and a complete restaurant menu featuring daily specials, including Sunday roast.  Staff is friendly and it’s always busy, especially after work and on the weekends, however, there’s ample space should you decide last-minute to walk in and have a bite.  It’s situated on the river which means you can take a stroll in either direction toward Wandsworth Park or Battersea, or if you’d like, you can cross Wandsworth Bridge and head to Chelsea and Fulham.

Note:  All portions listed in their menu are adult sized but they do offer kid’s sized portions too on select items such as risotto, fish and chips, etc.

Las Iguanas

In Restaurants on July 8, 2010 at 5:53 pm

Looking for some Latin flavor?  Las Iguanas serves food from countries such as Mexico, Brazil, Spain, and Puerto Rico… just to name a few.  There’s ample seating indoors and outdoors so no reservations are necessary, but recommended.    They offer a lunch special with generous sized portions starting at £6.90 Monday to Friday with selections like a burrito, sweet potato fishcakes or asparagus salad.   Their kids’ menu is also excellent, moderately priced and big enough to fill their tummies.  Note that they also have organic baby food – complimentary!   Close to Waterloo station and on the South Bank, it’s a hot spot for both tourists and locals.    Highly recommended so be sure to check the location nearest to you!

Del’ Aziz

Del’ Aziz , an Eastern Mediterranean chain of restaurants serving a selection of sweet and savory foods, has 5 locations throughout London:  Fulham, Westfield, Swiss Cottage, Bermondsey and Bankside.  I have been to both the Westfield and Fulham restaurants and have had fantastic service along with great food.  They have daily lunch specials which are usually priced below £10.00 for a pita sandwich or other entree and a kid’s menu which is generally priced at £4.95, check your local restaurant for details.  They have an ample supply of  highchairs too plus a very comfortable seating area.  I recently went to Del’ Aziz Westfield with 7 other mums (as walk-ins) where the staff were quick to accommodate us all.

Gourmet Burger Kitchen

In Restaurants on May 27, 2010 at 4:26 am

With 51 locations throughout England, Gourmet Burger Kitchen serves one of the best burgers in town!  Typically, you would order your food, pay and have a seat while your food gets prepared and brought to your table.  Unlike most locations, GBK in Tower Bridge has table service and they’re the only location which offers two sized burgers to choose from.  Normally I’d get the regular sized burger but this time around I opted for the smaller size which was filling enough, with a side of chips of course!  Just right next door to the Clink Prison Museum (don’t fret, it’s not that creepy) and a short walk away from St. Katharine’s Dock, it’s a sure spot for lunch or dinner.   They’ve also installed a lift to the upstairs restaurant making it perfect for those with buggies.

Common Ground Cafe Bar

In Cafes & bakeries, Indoor fun, Outdoor fun, Parks, Pubs on April 24, 2010 at 10:17 pm

This is a perfect spot for both parents and children.  The Common Ground is nestled in Wandsworth Common just off Dorlcote Road.  It’s a cafe/bar which means they serve anything from a cup of tea to bottled beer or a glass of wine.  I have yet to try any of their menu items but by the way it looks everyone is sure to find something to cut their appetite.  Inside there are tables in the front of house and in the back as well as outside.  What’s really cool is that they also supply kids with toys such as activity cubes and building blocks.  Clever if you ask me.  They also have a class schedule offering Action Amanda activities throughout the week for babies and toddlers on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday (best suitable from 6 months to 4 years old).   On Wednesday they have a Blueberry Playsong session for babies over 12 months old, ideal for those babies who love music!  And after a session of play take your little one to the playground just a few feet away!

Carluccio’s

In Restaurants on April 3, 2010 at 7:39 pm

With over 50 locations in England, Ireland and Dubai, Carluccio’s serves a wide variety of Italian food. I highly recommend having one of their grilled paninis such as the Parma, really tasty!  I’ve been to a few including South Kensington, Fulham Road and Covent Garden.  They have all been consistent with the quality of food and service has always been prompt and staff were always welcoming.   Stop in for breakfast, lunch or a mid afternoon coffee, there’s no pressure and menu items are moderately priced.

Pizza Express

There’s no way I could go on without listing Pizza Express.  It’s a win win situation for any parent wanting to please their child.  What kid doesn’t love pizza or ice cream?!  Here’s the kid’s menu, just as yummy as the regular menu.  And, as you read it, notice the Schools’ Programme listed below, now that’s pretty amazing!  I think I would have jumped up and down at the opportunity of a hands on pizza experience during one of our class trips.  Just enter your postal code and find your nearest Pizza Express.
